Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She served on an audience for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories such as arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended numerous summits in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
